Zinnias

The Zinnias are blooming. The Zinnias are blooming!!! My customers love them. I and my coworkers are ambiguous with our feelings for them to say the least. Every year I say we are never going to grow them again. And then they break out their color with such enthusiasm that no one can help but smile.

They are a royal pain to cut and labor costs are ridiculous. Japanese beetles like them. They get Powdery Mildew and Blackspot. They muck up the water in a vase in no time flat. Don't even THINK about putting them in a clear vase for more than the dinner hour. They don't last very long in the vase either. And most customers think they should cost next to nothing because "everybody has Zinnias".

But that color!
